The Credit Union Difference

We are a not-for-profit, member-owned financial cooperative. We offer a better value to our members because we don’t create fees to make a profit for stockholders. Our members ARE the owners, and we are only the stewards of their money.

What is the history of COLOramo?

Coloramo started in Grand Junction and is owned by its members, most of whom live and work here!

Coloramo was founded in June 1953 here in Grand Junction. Up until 2002, we served only federal agency employees and select employee groups. We applied to convert to a Community Charter and we have been able to serve all Mesa County residents since 2002. In 2018 we expanded our Charter to include Delta and Montrose Counties. In 2020 we expanded our Charter again to include Gunnison, Ouray, Garfield, Rio Blanco, and Moffat Counties.

WHAT DOES COLORAMO MEAN? IS THAT A TYPO?

Coloramo is NOT a typo! Coloramo is an acronym for Colorado Raw Materials Office. A group of Department of Energy employees working in the Atomic Energy Commission Compound founded Coloramo in 1953. They were members of the “Coloramo Social Club”, hence, our name!

Community

The Coloramo team cherishes Western Colorado just like our members do. We understand what it truly means to be local & to serve the community of the beautiful Western Slope.

Coloramo strives to support our community, and is involved in several local events and sponsorships annually. We also host our own events to raise money for local causes. In addition to these events and sponsorships, we love to give back by providing free education to our community on a variety of financial topics.
